The Car Scrappage Scheme

A threat to the environment is posed by old cars. It is best for them to be scrapped and replaced by newer, more efficient vehicles. That is why the government have decided to run the car scrappage scheme. When scrapping an eligible car it’s possible to get £2,000 off the OTR price of a new one. Although the idea sounds great, at Scrap Car Woking we believe their are some problems with the scheme. For a start, you can only buy certain cars through the scheme when you scrap your old car. Strict criteria must also be met by the old scrap car in order to be eligible. The requirements for the scheme are listed below.

The scrap car you are trading in must:

  • Have been registered to you continuously for one year
  • Be registered in your name with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency or Driver and Vehicle Agency
  • Be a small car or van weighing no more than 3,500 kg
  • Have a valid MOT (or within 14 days of expiry) on the old car at the time you purchase the new one
  • Have an in date (or within 14 days of expiry) tax disc when the order of your new vehicle is placed
  • Have a UK address on the registration certificate (also known as V5C)
  • Be insured when you order your new vehicle
  • Be registered in the United Kingdom (UK) on or before the 31st August 1999

Of course, few cars meet these strict requirements. Sadly, this has lead to a lot of disappointment in Woking from people who were hoping to profit from scrapping their car.
